K-5 Science Lab
The Science Lab is an exciting and important part of the curriculum at BFA. All K-5 students have Science Lab twice a week, every other week. This is an essential part of fulfilling BFA’s mission to develop scientifically curious students and is one of the reasons we are the STEAM School of Choice in Douglas County. The Science Lab incorporates all aspects of STEM through:
– Engaging students through inquiry driven, hands-on experiments;
– Building and designing models through problem based learning;
– Learning about the foundational aspects of the scientific process; and,
– Using foundational scientific equipment.
During their Science Lab days, students conduct a variety of experiments designed to incorporate the scientific process, along with content covered in their classrooms. Students learn in depth science skills through grade-level dissections, using microscopes and scientific instruments. Science Lab brings the science curriculum to life!
The third and fifth grade science fair is hosted by the Science Lab teacher Mrs. Flint. More information on the science fair can be found in the 3rd & 5th Grade Science Fair Handbook (click here) along with updates sent home by teachers ahead of the spring event. We are looking forward to it!
